The syf season is one which all performing CCAs gear up to and aims for performing their very best during the competition itself. It's a time where all eyes are on their own schools' performing arts and hoping that once again, they get to clinch that Gold With Honours they have done so the last time, or to get a better award than the last time. However, when they don't perform up to standards or putting it in a better way, attained something deemed less, eyes of hope turn into eyes of accusation or just simply disappointments.
That's the stress of many performing arts CCAs in many schools. Yet, again, I'm blessed that ACJC's belief is such that, as long as we offer the best we could give and the school knows it, there's no disgrace in getting awards lesser than a Gold With Honours.
Since I first joined AC Choir, I've learnt alot in this area. We perform not to glorify ourselves but to bless those who listen, who watches. And it's with sincerity in performing that we can make people feel us. Take our school's dance for example. They danced with the heart to tell the story behind 2 disabled dancers. Although they didn't get what they expected and hoped for, they knew their dance have acomplished the greater purpose - touching the hearts of the audience. And that's enough for them.
Last week, I learnt that all the performing arts in RV obtained something lesser than the previous SYF. Initially, it was shocking to find out. RVC got a gold? I was curious as to how that happened yet I knew afterwards that they did give a satisfying performance and Ms Tham is pleased already. Whatever they are given, as long as they themselves knew they've given a good performance, would no longer matter. RVCS would be competing on 5th May together with the other JC choirs. When I went back on thursday, certain things shocked me and Yifan and I had to talk to them. I really hope that they will see that being new, being a small ensemble does not excuse them from giving slipshod performances. Instead, they need to show greater passion and love for performing to overcome the negative feelings.
As for AC Choir, we're almost getting there. This week will be intensive morning pracs and also short afternoon pracs on mon & tues. Hopefully, all will truly go well. Sops and Alto 1s, we shall be in perfect unison for Forvaskvall entry, no matter what.
Anyway, just a video on Susan Boyle from Britain's Got Talent to inspire. She's got a dream and she dares to live her dream despite oppositions! We got to learn to display her tenacity and focus and passion. Most of all, sing and perform with sincerity.
