Sing To Bless
Thursday, May 07, 2009 4:24 PM

5th of May had been the day all 73 of us plus the 6 teachers/conductors had been waiting for.
10.30am, VCH.

For the first time after so long, there was no latecomer on that day. Everyone was punctual, in great anticipation of the day ahead of us. Warm ups in the beginning was led by Mrs Tay as usual. Afterwhich, Mrs Wilson led us through the 3 songs and great, we sound prepared except for small bits that could afford a little more sharpening still.

Then was the time where we had to go board our bus towards VCH. It was a wait of about 20 minutes or a lil more? then we got to go to the terrace for a 10min short run-through before we had to stand by for our turn on stage. As we were outside, we could hear a little of RJChorale and JJC's choir as well but of course, we focused and blocked them out of our minds, thinking of just our music. Prayers were prayed and final words were said before it was finally the moment.

We stepped onto stage, beaming, with the encouragement that came in the form of applause from our beloved Alumni. =D Then, we performed our 3 pieces. It was really amazing. I really felt interwoven into the whole music itself, feeling each others' parts as much as mine. Together, the choir was connected with one another and with Mrs Wilson as she waved her hands and conducted the 3 songs. Any pitch probs we had, totally vanished and we were all just enjoying each sound that came out, even the silence in between. As we stepped off, we knew one thing: our music has definitely touched hearts out there and that's enough.

For the first time in my many SYF experiences, it was one time that I felt no need to know the results anymore. We have given a performance worthy of the music and worthy of what we can do. Thank you all who gave your very all to this music making!

Last but not least, thank God for rewarding us with the Gold With Honours still. However, it would be a greater reward to know whether the judges did feel our shared passion in choral music. =)

Oh and congrats to RVCS for making through the 1st SYF with a SILVER!! It's not bad really for a choir with just 26 people, all being just Year 5s. I'm sure RVCS will continue to grow as a choir and shine among many other JC choirs. =)
